I was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and graduated from the faculty of Engineering, University
of Alexandria, in 1980. I moved to the USA in January 1990, pursued my Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, at the
University of Oklahoma (The Sooners is the OU’s football team), Norman, Oklahoma.
After my graduation, I worked in Dallas, Texas for less than a year, then I moved to Chicago,
the Windy City, for its diversity, theatres, museums, restaurants, and for its cultural activities. I got married for
the second time in 1997, to an Egyptian educator, whom I met in Paris; we were walking on the famous Alma’s
bridge the day Princess Diane was killed in a car accident in the tunnel below the bridge. It was a very sad day as we both
admired Princess Di for her good deeds.
Though I’m an engineer, and have a full time job in the engineering field at the world
leader of electronic audio systems, I have recently started the first steps toward fulfilling my long awaited dream of becoming
a full time college instructor.
In addition to my full time Job, I teach math at the GED program in Elgin Community
College (ECC), as well as in District 214, on a part time basis.
I like traveling, and I have been to 23 states of the US, and 12 countries in four
continents. I like dogs, and used to have a German Shepherd, my wife named Fidel, after the dog in the "An Affair
to Remember" classic movie.
Thanks to my wife, Hoda; who encouraged me to join UOP, I have two more classes
to complete my online program and achieve my dream.
As an apprentice teacher I’m looking forward to learn from the extensive experience Janet has
to offer, as well as from interacting with my classmates.
Also, check out my dream ride
here.
Sincerely,
Alaa
